Introduction to Gesture

What is this?

This is an overview of the concepts I think are important to the practice of gesture drawing. This includes some lectures, demonstrations, and assignments / exercises.

Gesture drawing is one of the more important parts of drawing the figure. It is something that is intimidating and can be a scary subject, but with the right tools can also become the most fun and energizing parts.

The goal of this is to give you a crash course on everything you need to learn gesture as a skill.

What this isn't

Though this is a course, this isn't the end all be all resource on drawing. If I were you, I'd treat this as more of a book I'm purchasing to learn a new perspective.

You still have to go and practice this stuff, and it will take time to get better at. Do the exercises, and take your time. If you do that, you'll get the most out of this course.

Who am I?

Hey! My name is Kristian and I'm an artist and teacher. You might know me from Proko, or my podcast (The Sketchy Van Podcast). I spent most of my career working behind the scenes on a bunch of educational art content, more recently I've come out from behind the curtain to make my own stuff.

I generally haven't dipped my toe too far into teaching drawing a ton, mainly because I think it's such a personal journey that takes a lot of self exploration. That being said though I think it's important to have a good understanding of the "fundamentals".

My professional experience includes putting together a ton of educational content for Proko, and more recently the Proko x Marvel course.

1. Is this for beginners?
   1. This is for everyone! Gesture is something that you'll be studying through out your art career. It's always good to review information, or get a new perspective if you're more advanced.
2. Do I need photoshop?
   1. I do use photoshop and Ahmed Aldoori's brush pack for this, but these concepts apply to every medium.
3. Do you recommend I follow along?
   1. Absolutely! We can't learn anything without emulation, just take your time and go at your own pace. The advantage of this to an in person class is that you can re-watch videos if you need more context.
